Vintage 2021
From the vintage reports of the Consorzio Tutela Vini Valpolicella
A changeable year that ended well: a dry September gave healthy grapes.
A changeable season with late flowering and a dry September that gave healthy grapes.
March was very dry; April and May brought about 210 mm, close to normal, and June almost none. July to September had about 200 mm, some 50 mm below the average. Flowering came about ten days late and veraison about nine days late. Downy mildew needed precise work in May and June, and powdery mildew caused modest damage in a few sensitive spots. Dry weather in September kept botrytis away, and picking began around 15 September.
Amarone della Valpolicella Docg by La Collina dei Ciliegi
The Amarone della Valpolicella from La Collina dei Ciliegi brings depth and richness to the table with a style shaped by patient care and the traditions of Valpolicella. Hand-harvested grapes, collected in September, are laid to rest in drying lofts for around 100 days, concentrating their flavors and aromas while reducing their weight by nearly 40%.
Fermentation takes place slowly over 25 days in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, followed by 24 months of aging in French oak barriques and tonneaux, and a further 6 months in bottle, allowing the wine to develop its character fully.
In the glass, it shows a dark, luminous garnet red color. The bouquet weaves together lush scents of morello cherry and fruit preserves, slowly revealing layers of warming spices and a whisper of leather. On the palate, it delivers an enveloping structure, bold and full-bodied, while maintaining balance and a smooth, persistent finish.
Perfect alongside stewed or grilled game, slow-braised meats, mature cheeses, and dishes featuring a sweet and sour contrast.

La Collina dei Ciliegi is a winery located in the Valpantena region, north of Verona, Italy. Founded in 2005 by Massimo Gianolli and Stefano Falla, the estate spans approximately 58 hectares, with vineyards situated between 450 and 700 meters above sea level.
The winery produces a range of wines, including Amarone, Valpolicella Superiore, Valpolicella Ripasso, Recioto, and Brut. Grape varieties cultivated include Corvina Veronese, Corvinone, Rondinella, Garganega, Chardonnay, and Pinot Blanc.
La Collina dei Ciliegi emphasizes sustainable and organic farming practices. Since 2023, the vineyards have been officially certified for organic cultivation, reflecting the winery's attention to environmental stewardship.
In addition to winemaking, the estate offers hospitality services through its Ca' del Moro Wine Retreat. This facility, created from the restoration of old stables and a barn in the village of Erbin, combines rustic architecture with modern amenities. Guests can participate in wine tastings, cooking classes, and outdoor activities such as horseback riding and e-bike tours.
La Collina dei Ciliegi also engages in social initiatives, including the Vini del Duomo project in collaboration with the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo. Proceeds from the sales of specific wines contribute to the restoration of the Milan Cathedral.
