Description

Six Amarones built for depth, concentration and oak, from 2015 to 2020

Romano Dal Forno set a benchmark for a particular style of Amarone: maximum concentration, new small oak, and a structure that demands attention. That approach inspires this box, assembled from six producers who share the same appetite for intensity, without the three-figure price tag that Dal Forno commands.

Each wine here is made from hand-selected, carefully dried grapes, fermented slowly and aged in small barrels, many of them new, several using both French and American oak. The results are wines with high extract, firm tannin and the kind of weight that rewards patience at the table.

The box draws on vintages from 2015 to 2020, across six different producers, giving you a useful spread of years and styles within a shared philosophy of power and precision.

Box contents

Cà dei Conti, Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG “Tano”, 2018
From marl-limestone soils in Tregnago at 400 to 450 metres, this wine is made from Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, Marzemino and Rebo. It reaches 17% alcohol with an extract of 55 g/L, giving it a dense, richly structured character built for the long term.

Corte Canella, Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG, 2019
Made from Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Croatina, with grapes withered for 70 to 90 days and fermented slowly at controlled temperature. Maturation runs for 36 months in 50% new barriques, followed by two years of bottle rest, a process that sits squarely within the concentration-first philosophy of this box.

Tommaso Bussola, Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico, 2020
Grown on hills near Negrar at 280 to 450 metres, from vines between 10 and 50 years old. The blend of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Molinara is harvested from mid-September, with careful grape selection at the heart of the process.

Ilatium, Amarone della Valpolicella Riserva DOCG “Due Mori”, 2015
Only the best grapes from important vintages are used here, dried in small crates for 100 to 120 days in a controlled environment. The wine then ages for approximately 42 months in French and North American oak barrels of 225 to 500 litres, followed by 12 months in bottle. It is the oldest vintage in this selection and the longest-aged wine of the six.

Carlo Ferragu, Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG, 2018
Made from Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Oseleta, grown on vines averaging 55 years of age. Grapes are dried for 70 days before fermentation in steel, and the wine then spends 36 months maturing in wood, building the secondary and tertiary complexity that makes it well suited to further cellaring.

DianaDes, Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG, 2020
From limestone hills at around 400 metres, grapes are naturally dried for approximately one hundred days before a slow, temperature-controlled fermentation. Roughly thirty months in small French and American oak barrels, followed by extended bottle ageing, give this wine its precision and texture.

Why this box?

If you are drawn to the concentrated, oak-influenced school of Amarone, wines with real weight, high extract and the structure to age, this selection gives you six examples of that approach from producers across Valpolicella, at prices well below the names most associated with that style. The 2015 Riserva from Ilatium anchors the box with genuine cellaring potential, while the 2019 and 2020 bottles offer the same philosophy in younger, more approachable form.
