Rubinelli Vajol
Wines by Rubinelli Vajol
In the heart of Valpolicella Classica, between the ancient Pieve of San Floriano and San Pietro in Cariano, Rubinelli Vajol has built its identity around a single place with a remarkably clear character. The Conca del Vajol, warm, sunlit and entirely south-facing, gathers vineyard, drying loft and cellar into one continuous setting, where the shape of the land and the nature of the soil define the style of the wines from the very beginning.
The history of the estate is closely tied to the Rubinelli family, long established in Valpolicella. Gaetano Rubinelli, after his work in early twentieth-century Verona, acquired the Vajol countryside for its distinctive bowl-shaped form and its position at the geographical centre of the historic denomination. Over time, the family’s intention became clear: to produce a cru of Vajol capable of expressing the full quality of this singular site.
The estate extends across ten hectares of vines in a single body of land surrounding Corte Sant’Anna. This continuity is central to the identity of the winery, giving its wines a precise and recognisable origin. The soils are calcareous and tufaceous, with marl, clay and stone, conditions that moderate the natural vigour of the vine and support elegance, balance and aromatic depth in the glass.
The vineyards are cultivated through a combination of traditional Veronese pergola and more recent Guyot training, while the grape varieties remain firmly rooted in local tradition: Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella form the greater part of the blend, joined by smaller amounts of Molinara and Oseleta. Work in the vineyard follows a careful path, with attention to sustainability and to the natural vitality of the soil.
Production is centred on the five classic red wines of Valpolicella, released as numbered bottles and aged exclusively in large oak casks of French and Slavonian origin. Across Amarone, Ripasso, Valpolicella Classico Superiore, Valpolicella Classico and Recioto, Rubinelli Vajol presents a coherent interpretation of one place, where the wine begins in the field long before it reaches the cellar.
