Vintage 2018
Stars from the Consorzio Tutela Vini Valpolicella, for Amarone della Valpolicella
A very good year. Warm weather, plenty of water and a balanced harvest.
A warm year with good water reserves, balanced ripening and a slightly early harvest.
Spring was cold at first, then warm, with repeated spells of cold air and a lot of rain in the hills. Early summer was cool and unstable; from late July it turned hot, with local storms. Strong storms in early September caused local damage, with landslides and flooding in some vineyards. Harvest began on 10 September, four days ahead of the average, with good sugar, balanced acidity and heavier berries thanks to plenty of water.
Amarone della Valpolicella Docg “Case Vecie” by Brigaldara
Experience the unique taste of Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG “Case Vecie” by Brigaldara, named after the vineyard located in Grezzana – Valpantena. The vineyard’s high altitude and perfect exposition allows the grapes to ripen slowly and consistently, even during harsh weather conditions. The grapes are harvested late and dried during a colder period of the year, resulting in a slow and extended drying process that enhances the natural characteristics of a high-altitude climate, making it a true “Vigne Alte” or high-hill Amarone.
To produce this unique wine, grapes are carefully selected in the vineyard, placed in crates, and dried in the drying loft. During fermentation, the wine is in constant contact with the grape skins and is pumped over twice a day with aย delestageย halfway through fermentation, promoting color extraction. The wine is then aged for two years in small wooden barrels and another two years in large wooden barrels.
The Amarone Case Vecie offers a deep ruby color and an intense aroma of dried cranberry, kirsch, brown spices, figs macerated in sugar syrup, and botanical herbs. On the palate, it is fresh, suave, and precise, with clean flavors of cinnamon, pepper, tobacco, and potpourri. The wine finishes long with young, chewy yet polished tannins. Indulge in the rich and unique flavor of this exceptional Amarone.

Brigaldara represents a broad view of Valpolicella, bringing together multiple perspectives, stories, and generations in a single โwine chest.โ The property spans over 120 hectares of land, 47 of them devoted to vines, across three areas of Verona: Valpolicella Classica, Valpantena, and Eastern Valpolicella. Owned by the Cesari family since 1928, Brigaldara combines centuries-old traditions with fresh insights from a team of young agronomists and enologists, each vineyard managed according to its specific characteristics.
Historic mentions of โBrigaldara,โ โBragaldara,โ or โBragadaraโ first appear in 12th-century documents. Over the centuries, the estate was referenced as fertile land for vines and olives. The 16th-century villa at its center is surrounded by meadows, woods, and carefully terraced vineyards on Monte Masua. By 1928, Renzo Cesar had acquired the property and, together with his family, introduced specialized viticulture that gained new momentum in the 1980s through work with Roberto Ferrarini, a significant innovator in Amarone and Valpolicella. The estateโs Amarone received its first national recognition in 1997.
Today, Brigaldaraโs holdings include hillside sites in Marano and Grezzana as well as new plantings in Marcellise. Traditional local varieties, Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, and the once-neglected Oseleta, thrive in these different terroirs. The environment is a diverse combination of olive groves, woodlands, truffle grounds, and grazing lands, forming a functional ecosystem. In the Case Vecie section, forestry, stone-wall maintenance, and the reintroduction of sheep highlight the farmโs approach to harmony between agriculture and nature.
In the cellar, every vintage is shaped by the yearโs conditions. Amarone and Recioto benefit from a two-stage wood-aging process: first, they rest in small barrels to promote oxygenation and stabilize color, then they complete their maturation in large Slavonian oak casks. This method aligns with Brigaldaraโs return to a lighter, fresher style of Valpolicella, balanced in structure without being overbearing in sugar or alcohol. It emphasizes the crisp aromas of the native grapes, underlining the diversity that defines Valpolicellaโs thousand-year-old wine tradition.
