Vintage 2015Exceptional vintage
Stars from the Consorzio Tutela Vini Valpolicella, for Amarone della Valpolicella
An exceptional year. A hot, dry summer and an early harvest of very healthy grapes.
A year of extremes: record heat and little rain, with healthy grapes and an early harvest.
The winter was warm, and the following months set twenty year records for maximum temperatures, July above all. April and July were very dry. Flowering came early, in late May and early June, and the heat of July and August did not slow ripening. The hot, dry weather kept downy mildew, powdery mildew and botrytis away, while careful vineyard work eased the stress on the vines. Harvest from about 10 September.
Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG “Mai Dire Mai” by Famiglia Pasqua
Mai Dire Mai is the meeting of the Pasqua family’s long winemaking know-how with the Monte Vegro vineyard. Its 23 hectares sit on a hilltop at 350 metres, between the Val d’Illasi and the Val di Mezzane, on clay and limestone soils that give the finished wine a fine mineral edge. The result is a line marked by elegance, complexity and a taste all its own.
The grapes, Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Oseleta, are picked by hand and carefully sorted, then laid to dry in boxes for two months to build a higher sugar concentration. After destemming, the must is given a cold maceration before fermentation. Whole berry alcoholic fermentation then takes place in steel at a controlled 22 to 25ยฐC over 40 days, followed by the malolactic fermentation. The wine matures for 24 months in new French oak alone: 70% in 225 litre barriques and 30% in 500 litre tonneaux.
The colour is a deep, intense garnet. The nose opens on red and black fruit such as cherry and blackberry, with balsamic and cinnamon notes and a fine finish of dark chocolate. The palate is rich and complex, very warm, held together by fine yet firmly present tannins. At 16.5% vol. this is a powerful Amarone with clear potential to age.
Serve at 18 to 20ยฐC in a large ballon glass. It stands up to roasted and grilled meats, red meat stews, aged cheeses and game such as goose or wild boar. Good to drink now, it will also keep and develop well in the cellar for five years and beyond. The 2015 has been warmly received, earning Tre Bicchieri from Gambero Rosso, a Gold Medal at The WineHunter Award Merano, and 93 points from both Luca Maroni and I Vini di Veronelli.

Pasqua Vigneti e Cantine is a historic Veronese winery owned by the Pasqua family. Founded in 1925, it is recognised around the world as both a producer and ambassador of prestigious Venetian wines. What the first generation of Pasqua brothers started has grown over a century into a house that pairs a deep understanding of the Valpolicella terroir with a constant push toward new winemaking ideas, carrying forward a hundred years of expertise through renewed stylistic codes.
Today President Umberto Pasqua works alongside his sons: Riccardo Pasqua as Chief Executive Officer, Alessandro Pasqua as President of Pasqua USA, and Andrea Pasqua as Head of Business Development. This third generation gave the winery its guiding manifesto, House of the Unconventional, a statement of identity built on boldness, a drive for experimentation, and curiosity about the world. Those values steer every strategic and production decision, with the wines acting as ambassadors of a dialogue between territory and creative vision, where the identity of a place meets human ingenuity to give wines that hold strong roots together with an international outlook.
The family thinks of its bottles as an ensemble of time made of yesterday, today and tomorrow. Each one holds knowledge passed down from generation to generation alongside the aim of producing wines built to withstand time, maturing and evolving in the glass. Art is a steady source of inspiration: Pasqua has long worked with artists worldwide, grounded in the belief that innovation is born from a profound, appreciative knowledge of history and tradition. Sustainability runs through the business too, from highly optimised energy use and temperature regulating structures to reduced packaging waste, supported by quality certifications including ISO, BRC, IFS and Biological, plus conformity to the Equalitas SOPD standard.
That research-minded approach has been noticed: Pasqua was named Innovator of the Year 2023 by Wine Enthusiast. In 2025 the winery celebrated its first 100 years, was chosen by winemaker Charles Smith as global distributor of the House of Smith brands (K Vintners, Sex and Real Wine), of which it is also a minority partner, and invested in the Pantelleria winemaking project of actress and style icon Carole Bouquet, acquiring ownership and linking its winemaking vision to the preservation of the island's culture.
As the family sees it, the wines they make are the fruit of their land's generosity and human talent.
