Amarone & Valpolicella wines from 2018

As springs become stormier in Valpolicella, so summers become hotter. This should be perfect, the textbook wine vintage, but sometimes that storminess overextends into summer and leaves winemakers with unstable conditions to manage, and sometimes difficult decisions to make. Nevertheless, the length of the summer has left some optimistic about the acidity of the 2018 wines, with its attendant boost for ageability. What lets the vintage down is its consistency, with ripeness levels uneven across the Valpolicella region.
