Valpolicella DOC Classico 2021 by Speri
From the heartland of the Valpolicella region, this is the Speri family’s most direct, pure, carpe diem expression of the area’s most democratic wine traditions. Vineyards in Negrar, Fumane and San Pietro in Cariano contribute hand-harvested grapes for immediate destemming and crushing for fermentation (on skins for eight days) in stainless steel. The wine is then aged in that steel as well as in cement for 4 months before bottle maturation.
This lack of wood barrel ageing results in a bright, fresh wine, a slightly translucent glowing ruby-purple colour drink with red cherries and aromatic spices on the nose, and food-friendly acidity on the palate. At 12,5%, this is a cheerful wine for drinking now, and would shine with charcuterie and summer vegetables.
