Stars from the Consorzio Tutela Vini Valpolicella, for Amarone della Valpolicella
A very good year. A dry spring, then a very rainy summer; quality varied from area to area.
An uneven year: dry until flowering, then very wet, with a harvest that varied from area to area.
January to May was drier and slightly warmer than usual. June to August brought 575 mm of rain at San Pietro in Cariano and 461 mm at Illasi, against about 230 mm in a normal year, with some hail in June and August. Downy mildew pressed hard after the rains, luckily once fruit set was over; later, botrytis and rot needed care, helped by the September weather. Picking began around 13 September.
Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico by Villa della Torre
The Valpolicella DOC Classico Superiore by Villa della Torre stands out for its notable intensity and aromatic richness. Aged in wood, this wine develops a deep, complex profile. In the glass, it reveals a medium ruby-red hue. Its bouquet offers aromas of raspberry, wild berries, with subtle hints of vanilla and spices. On the palate, the wine has a well-structured body, featuring delicate, integrated tannins and a fresh, persistent finish. Harmonious and balanced, it delivers a pleasantly soft and fresh character, making it versatile for food pairing. Enjoyable in its youthful stage, this wine will gain further refinement with bottle aging.
It pairs wonderfully with a range of hearty meat dishes, both white and red, particularly those from the traditional cuisine of Verona. These include recipes based on poultry like chicken, turkey, rabbit, guinea fowl, and duck, reflecting the regionโs rustic culinary heritage. The wine also complements the remarkable cheeses from the Veronese mountains of Lessinia and the long-aged cured meats produced by local farmers.
Best served at 16โ18ยฐC in large red wine glasses.

Villa Della Torre has belonged to the Mastella Allegrini family since 2008. It was shaped by Giulio Romano and Michele Sanmicheli, who took inspiration from ancient Roman dwellings in their design. Today, the property includes an Art & Wine Relais and, since 2019, its own winery. This venture focuses on two regions known for winegrowing: Valpolicella Classica and Lugana. Valpolicella has long produced outstanding grapes, aided by limestone and volcanic soils, as well as breezes from nearby Lake Garda.
In Lugana, vines thrive under the moderating influence of Lake Garda. A dedicated team of agronomists and enologists oversees both zones, applying sustainable methods that uphold local biodiversity. Villa Della Torre is recognized as a place of hospitality surrounded by a rural panorama, and its wines balance a deep-rooted history with a forward-looking spirit, offering both finesse and complexity.
Near Fumane, the wineryโs central vineyard forms a ring around the Renaissance villa, echoing the style of a French Chรขteau. The land is composed of eroded limestone-dolomitic layers, basalt, and deposits of glacial origin, each contributing different water-holding capacities throughout the growing season. The topsoil has notable Eocene calcareous clay, while deeper layers feature white and pale blue chalk and marl. Lying at roughly 200 meters above sea level, it was replanted in 2014 using the guyot system, with Corvinone in the forefront for its refinement and balance, backed by Corvina for spicy, mineral character and bright acidity.
At an elevation of 450 meters stands the Monte Lencisa vineyard, established in 2016 using the Pergola system. This choice shields vines from wildlife while maintaining harmony with the environment. The soil is strewn with pink stones typical of the Lessinia mountains, and Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella flourish there.
In the Lugana district of Desenzano del Garda, landscapes shaped by nature and human hands form a setting of rivers, moraine lakes, fields, and woodlands. The lakeโs warmth softens winter temperatures, encouraging a variety of birdlife uncommon at these latitudes. Parts of the river valley remain untouched, with glacial hills that meet flatter terrain. This is where Villa Della Torre has expanded, offering wines that highlight the meeting point of tradition, land, and modern approaches.
