Wines by Serego Alighieri
In the heart of Valpolicella Classica, in Gargagnago, Serego Alighieri represents one of the longest-standing wine estates in the region, where the continuity of family and land has remained unbroken for centuries. Here, vineyards, historic buildings and agricultural practice form a single, cohesive setting shaped by time.
The origins of the estate date back to 1353, when Pietro Alighieri, son of Dante, acquired the property of Casal dei Ronchi. Since then, the estate has remained in the hands of his descendants, passing through more than twenty generations and establishing one of the most enduring presences in Valpolicella.
Over the centuries, the estate has evolved alongside the development of agriculture in the region, combining practical knowledge with a gradual refinement of vineyard and cellar work. The historic centre of the property remains unchanged, preserving its original structure and its close relationship with the surrounding land.
The vineyards are planted with the traditional varieties of Valpolicella, including Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara, cultivated in soils that combine limestone, clay and stone. The drying of the grapes follows the long-established appassimento method, allowing for the production of Amarone and Recioto in line with local tradition.
Since the 1970s, the estate has worked in partnership with Masi, maintaining its historical identity while further developing its approach to quality and consistency across vintages.
Today, Serego Alighieri presents a clear expression of Valpolicella, shaped by centuries of continuity, where the relationship between family, land and wine remains at the centre of its identity.
